5. Calling using mytello versus calling regularly.
While abroad, the rate of calls can be extremely high especially for calls that will take a long time because of the waiting time and how long your inquiry will take to be resolved.
With the mytello app, the rates are affordable compared to calling using your regular phone line. You can check the rates of your calls here https://www.mytello.com/en_GB/rates/cheap-calls-to-great-britain

8. Common questions when claiming your pension.
Can I contact them through email?
- Yes, you can reach out to the International Pension Centre through an online form.
What if there is a delay in my pension?
- Your payment timing might be affected by US holidays. Since an American company handles the processing, you could see a one-day delay if your usual payment date coincides with a federal holiday in the United States. It’s a good idea to keep this in mind when managing your finances, especially around major US holidays.
Where will I receive my pension?
- When it comes to receiving your State Pension while living abroad, you have flexible payment options. You can choose to have it deposited into a local bank account in your country of residence or maintain a UK-based account with a bank or building society. The account can be in your name, a joint account, or even someone else’s account with proper authorization. If you opt for an overseas account, you’ll need to provide the international bank account number (IBAN) and bank identification code (BIC). Keep in mind that payments to foreign accounts will be made in the local currency, so the amount you receive may fluctuate based on current exchange rates.
How often do I get my pension?
- You can opt for payments every 4 weeks or every 13 weeks, depending on what suits your financial planning best. However, there’s a special arrangement for those with very small pension amounts. If your State Pension works out to less than £5 per week, instead of regular payments, you’ll receive a single annual payment each December. This approach helps streamline the process for minimal amounts while ensuring you still receive your entitled pension.
What if I live part of the year abroad?
- When receiving your UK State Pension, you must choose one country for payments. The system doesn’t allow splitting payments between countries as you travel. Pick a location where you can easily access your funds year-round, regardless of where you’re staying at any given time.
